Brihadaranyaka Upanishad
Poem ten on Brihadaranyaka Upanishad. I decided to explore the ten Principle Upanishads and extract the essence from them. Given that the Upanishads are themselves an extraction of the extraction of the essence of all knowledge combinedโฆ
In sacred forests, wisdom shines bright,
Brihadaranyaka, Upanishad’s light.
From ancient sages, teachings divine,
Unveiling the Self, the ultimate shrine.
From Yajnavalkya’s dialogue profound,
To Maitreyi’s questions, truths abound.
The nature of reality, the Self’s true form,
Beyond the world, the eternal norm.
From “Neti, Neti,” the negation’s call,
Unveiling the truth, the essence of all.
Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, a sacred treasure,
Guiding the seeker, with wisdom’s measure.
This poem encapsulates the core teachings of the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, which expound on the nature of the Self, the dialogue between Yajnavalkya and Maitreyi, the concept of “Neti, Neti” (not this, not this) as a path of negation to realize the ultimate truth, and the eternal essence beyond the world.
*Please note that poetry is a creative expression, and this poem is a concise summary, not a literal translation of the Upanishad. For a comprehensive understanding, it’s recommended to refer to authoritative translations by qualified scholars or spiritual teachers.
