At the top of the scheme, there is the union of Shiva-Shakti, which represents the ultimate reality and consciousness. This union gives rise to the three shaktis, known as ichha, jnana, and kriya, which represent the will, knowledge, and action aspects of consciousness.

The 36 tattvas of manifestation are divided into four groups, starting with the shuddha tattvas, which are pure and undifferentiated. These include:

  1. Shuddha Vidya (Pure Knowledge)
  2. Isvara (The Lord)
  3. Sadashiva (The Eternal Lord)
  4. Shakti (The Divine Energy)
  5. Shiva (The Absolute Consciousness)

The next group is the suddha-ashuddha tattvas, which are partially pure and partially impure. These include:

The ashuddha tattvas are the impure and limited aspects of manifestation. These include:

  4. Karmendriyas (The Organs of Action)
  5. Antahkarana (The Inner Organ)

  11. Jiva (The Individual Soul)

The 28 tattvas of dissolution are the stages of reabsorption of manifestation into the Absolute. These include:
