These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of ecology.yoga (the “Site”). By accessing or using the Site, you agree to be bound by them. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.
The Site is an online community platform for the study and practice of traditional yoga and ecological awareness. It includes a Community Hub (forums, groups, events, member profiles and messaging), a School (online courses), an eMag (articles, podcasts and an online library), and a Shop. It is operated by Eco-Yoga Institute, based in New South Wales, Australia.
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. When registering, provide accurate and current information and keep it up to date. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for everything done under your account. Tell us at admin@ecology.yoga immediately if you believe your account has been used without your authority.
One person, one account. We may suspend or close an account if we reasonably believe these Terms or the Community Rules have been breached.
Everything you post or send through the Site is also governed by our Community Rules, which are incorporated into these Terms by reference. The Rules set out how members treat each other, what may be posted, and how moderation works. A breach of the Community Rules is a breach of these Terms.
The Site offers tiered memberships: Visitor (free), Member (paid), and Instructor (paid). Pricing, inclusions, and billing frequency are shown on the membership page at the time of sign-up. Paid memberships are recurring subscriptions billed through our payment processor (Stripe, including WooPayments).
You may cancel at any time in your account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep access until then. Refunds are handled in accordance with the Australian Consumer Law — see Section 10.
You agree not to:
We are not obliged to monitor user content but may do so. We may remove content we reasonably determine breaches these Terms or the Community Rules, and may suspend or close the accounts of members who breach them.
Read this section before you practise anything you find on the Site.
Yoga — including āsana, prāṇāyāma, kriyā, fasting and meditation — is physical and can carry risk. Everything here is delivered at a distance, with no instructor present to see you, correct you, or intervene. You accept that risk and you take responsibility for your own practice.
“User Content” means anything you post, upload, or make available through the Site — forum posts, group discussions, comments, course reviews, assignments, profile information, and any other contribution.
You keep ownership of your User Content. By posting it, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, display, reproduce and distribute it on and through the Site, for the purpose of operating and promoting the Site. Closing your account does not unpublish your articles. An article you have published — for the eMAG or for your own member blog — stays on the Site with your byline, and the licence above continues for as long as it remains published. To have it removed you must ask us specifically (see section 16). For the rest of your User Content — activity updates, forum replies and comments — the licence ends when you delete the content or close your account, except where others have already replied and removing it would break the thread.
You are responsible for your User Content, and you confirm that you have the rights to post it and that it infringes nobody.
Members holding an Instructor account may publish courses and written, video and audio content through the Site’s tools. Instructors are solely responsible for the accuracy and quality of what they publish, must describe their training and qualifications honestly, must keep what a student discloses to them confidential, and must observe Section 6 in everything they teach. We do not endorse Instructor content and are not liable for it. Instructors retain ownership of their content, subject to the licence in Section 7. We may unpublish material that breaches these Terms or the Community Rules.
All Site content created by us — text, graphics, logos, design elements, course material, and the overall look and feel — is owned by or licensed to Eco-Yoga Institute and protected by copyright and trademark law. “Matri,” “Eco-Yoga,” and associated logos are trademarks of Eco-Yoga Institute or its related entities. You may not copy, modify, distribute, republish, or create derivative works from our content, or use it to train machine-learning systems, without our prior written consent.
Course material is licensed to you personally for your own study. It may not be shared, resold, or reproduced for teaching without our written permission.
Products are sold through WooCommerce and paid for through Stripe. Your payment details go directly to the payment processor and are not stored by us. Descriptions, pricing and availability may change, and while we take care, we do not guarantee that all product information is free of error.
Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law are not affected by these Terms. Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. If a product or service has a major failure you are entitled to a replacement or a refund, and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss. If the failure is minor, we will repair or replace it within a reasonable time, or refund it.
For digital products and online courses, tell us at admin@ecology.yoga if something is faulty, not as described, or inaccessible, and we will put it right.
The Site contains affiliate links, including to Amazon and other retailers. ecology.yoga participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising programme that lets sites earn fees by linking to Amazon. We may earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not influence our editorial content.
The Site links to third-party websites and embeds third-party media. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability, or privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement. Your use of them is at your own risk and under their terms.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Site is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, and we make no representations about the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of any content on it, including content posted by members and Instructors. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Site. Where a change materially affects a paid membership or a course you have purchased, we will tell you.
Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be excluded, restricted, or modified by agreement.
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
These limitations apply as far as the law allows and do not limit or exclude any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.
You agree to indemnify Eco-Yoga Institute and its officers, employees and agents against claims, liabilities, damages, losses and expenses (including reasonable legal costs) arising out of your use of the Site, your User Content, or your breach of these Terms.
You may close your account at any time from your account settings or by writing to us. On closure, your access to member areas and to courses ends, and your personal information is handled as set out in the Privacy Policy.
Articles you have published stay published. Closing your account does not by itself remove an article you have written for the eMAG or your member blog — it remains on the Site with your byline. If you want it taken down, you need to ask us specifically: write to admin@ecology.yoga and we will remove it, apart from anything we are required to keep for legal or accounting reasons. Removal is subject to the practical limits described in the Privacy Policy — we cannot recall what search engines have already cached.
Your activity updates, forum replies and comments are treated differently: they go with the account when it closes, except where others have already replied and removing them would break the thread.
If we suspend or close your account for a breach, we will tell you why. You may ask us to review the decision by replying to that notice. Where an account is closed for a serious breach, fees already paid for the current period are not refunded, except where the Australian Consumer Law requires otherwise.
If you believe material on the Site infringes your copyright, write to admin@ecology.yoga with a description of the work, identification of the infringing material, your contact details, and a statement that you hold a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law. We investigate every notice and remove material where the complaint is made out.
These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. Any dispute arising under or in connection with them is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Updated Terms are posted here with a revised “Last updated” date. If we make material changes we will notify registered members by email. Continuing to use the Site after changes are posted is your acceptance of them.

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, how we protect it, and your rights in relation to it. We handle your personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), as amended by the Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2024.
We collect personal information when you interact with the Site in the following ways:
Account registration. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, username, and password. Depending on your membership tier, we may also collect a profile photo, biographical information, and other details you choose to provide.
Profile fields, including location. Your member profile includes optional fields, one of which is a location. If you complete it, that location is stored with your profile, is visible to other members according to your profile settings, and is used by the member directory’s search and “near me” features. It is optional: leave it blank and no location is stored. You can change or clear it at any time in your profile settings.
Membership and payments. When you sign up for a paid membership or purchase a product, your payment is processed by Stripe (including WooPayments, which is built on Stripe). We do not collect or store your card numbers, bank account details, or other payment credentials — these are submitted directly to the payment processor and never pass through our servers. We receive only confirmation of payment, transaction identifiers, and the billing details needed for invoicing and tax records. If we add another payment provider, this policy will be updated before it goes live.
Community participation. When you post in forums, groups, or comments, send messages to other members, or interact with the community, the content you post and your activity (posts, replies, group memberships, and any participation points or badges) are visible to other members in accordance with the Site’s community settings.
Courses. When you enrol in or complete a course, we collect enrolment records, progress data, quiz and assignment submissions, grades, and completion status. Your instructor can see your progress and submissions in the courses you are enrolled in.
Shop purchases. When you buy a product, we collect your name, email, billing and shipping address, and order details.
Events. When you register for an event, we collect your registration details and attendance.
Contact and correspondence. When you write to us by email or through a form on the Site, we collect what you put in the message.
Automatically collected information. Our servers and analytics tools collect technical information such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, and time spent on the Site. Podcast episodes served from the Site are logged in the same way when they are downloaded or streamed.
Cookies. We use cookies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, run the shopping cart and checkout, and measure how the Site is used. Analytics cookies are set by Google Analytics (see Section 4). We do not use cookies for third-party advertising, ad retargeting, or behavioural profiling. You can configure your browser to refuse cookies, but some features — logging in and checkout in particular — will not work without them.
We use the personal information we collect only for the following purposes:
We do not use your personal information for purposes other than those described above without your consent.
We share personal information with third parties only as necessary to operate the Site. These are the services in use, and what each one receives:
We do not share personal information with anyone beyond those described above.
Several of the services above — Stripe, Google, Automattic (Jetpack and Akismet), MailPoet, and the providers of embedded media — store or process data on servers outside Australia, principally in the United States and the European Union. Where personal information is transferred overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles it in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles. By using the Site you consent to those transfers where they are necessary to provide our services.
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These include SSL/TLS encryption in transit, hashed password storage, access controls limiting who can reach personal information, regular software and security updates, and reputable hosting.
No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to maintaining and improving our practices in line with current standards and our obligations under the Privacy Act.
Content you post — forum posts, group discussions, comments, course reviews, and profile information — is visible to other users, and in some areas to the public. Do not post personal information you do not want to be public, your own or anyone else’s.
Closing your account does not unpublish your articles. An article you have written — for the eMAG or for your own member blog — stays on the Site with your byline unless you specifically ask us to remove it.
This applies to articles. Your activity updates, forum replies and comments are part of the community stream and are treated differently — they go with the account when it closes, except where others have already replied and removing them would break the conversation. See section 16 of the Terms of Use.
We will remove your posted content at your request where practicable. We cannot guarantee removal of anything already copied, cached, or indexed by third parties such as search engines.
Under the Australian Privacy Principles you have the right to:
To exercise any of these, write to admin@ecology.yoga with the subject line “Privacy Request.” We will acknowledge within 7 days and respond substantively within 30 days.
If you are in a jurisdiction with additional data-protection rights, such as the EU or UK under the GDPR, we will make reasonable efforts to honour them. Write to us to discuss your circumstances.
If a data breach involving your personal information is likely to result in serious harm, we will contain the breach and mitigate the harm, assess it under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme (Part IIIC of the Privacy Act), and notify the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner and affected individuals as the law requires. We maintain a breach response plan and will act promptly.
The Site is not directed at children under 16, and you must be at least 16 to register. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 16 has given us personal information, write to admin@ecology.yoga.
We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices, the services we use, technology, or the law. Updated versions are posted here with a revised “Last updated” date. If we make material changes — particularly to how we use or share your personal information — we will notify registered users by email before they take effect.
If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles or otherwise mishandled your personal information, please complain to us first at admin@ecology.yoga. We will acknowledge within 7 days and investigate and respond within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may take the complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), the independent regulator:
The OAIC will normally ask that you have complained to us first and given us a reasonable time to respond.
